More on retiring Exchange 2003 - Public Folders



Moving public folders to Exchange 2007?

Often I see an incomplete replication to the new server. Inside Outlook you may see this error when opening the public folders:

Cannot Display the Folder. Network problems are preventing connection to Microsoft Exchange.

To move your public folders, open Exchange System Manager on your 2003 server. Expand the Administrative Groups and Servers. Keep expanding things until you see your Public Folder Store. I recommend performing this operation over a weekend if you have large public folders.

Right Click on the Public Folder Store and select Move all Replicas. Give this some time. Eventually, you should see your folder count on the 2003 server diminish. Running the command: Get-Publicfolder -recurse on the Exchange Management Shell should begin to show an increasingly longer list of folders.

If you receive an error or the folders just do not seem to move, there could be two things: permissions or SSL on Exchange 2007. Make sure you have full control of ALL the public folders. If you still can't move the folders, open IIS Manager on the Exchange 2007 server. Expand the server name, Web Sites, then the Default Website. Right click on Exadmin and select properties. Click on the Directory Security tab then select the Edit button on the bottom of the window. Deselect the Require Secure Channel (SSL). Click OK twice.

Wow...you have a very cool job there, no wonder you're travelling a lot.
Hey, with you're great talent in this area, I think you're not gonna have so much trouble to understand things like I am right now.
I still have a hard time to translate things in my simple brain wires (Multiply is really hard to grasp, but Blogger is much more friendly to me, I still love the simple features in Y!360*), and maybe I also got a slow loading brain.
I just made a blog in Blogger, so there's no post there yet. But I'll start to fill in this month.
So how to make an invite in here?
I'm sooooo clueless, as usual.

I like to work with other tools, but sometimes I had awful problems. Once day I had unusual issue with my MS Exchange and couldn't make anything. I was lucky and soon a friend suggested me the fine solution, which would help in this trouble - recovering exchange from .ost files.

I have a user that had access to site settings, all content, etc. I double checked her access and it was read only but the permissions check tool showed a panel beneath the site permissions that showed Allow for many categories. She had full control. "The following factors also affect the level of access for" She was added as a Site Collection Administrator. I don't know who would have added her there, but someone had. If you find this type of issue, that should be the first thing you check. You can also check the Web Application User Policy in Central Admin. That's the other area I find people or groups with elevated permissions.

Unknown server tag 'AdminControls:MigrationToolPromotionTip'. in Central Admin after installing SharePoint 2013 security update KB4482464

I installed KB4482464 on my sandbox server without issue so I moved to my development farm. Following the patch, Central Admin (CA) had an error: Unknown server tag 'AdminControls:MigrationToolPromotionTip'. I noticed that the sandbox environment CA had this banner: You can now use the SharePoint Migration Tool to migrate to OneDrive and SharePoint Online. It looks like that failed in the Dev farm. The Configuration Wizard GUI failed to successfully run. Solution: I ran PSCONFIG with these options on my primary APP server: psconfig.exe -cmd helpcollections -installall -cmd secureresources -cmd services -install -cmd installfeatures -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -wait I ran PSCONFIG with these options on my remaining app, search and WFE servers: psconfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force I will exclude this update from my deployment on SCCM and run it manually.
